Greetings in the Name of Him Who Is Truth!
What would you do if your 12 year old daughter was sneaking around and putting inappropriate pictures of herself on the internet? Most self-respecting parents would make sure that the girl would not be allowed on the internet until they were sure that her internet use was appropriate. Maybe they would take away some privileges from the girl so she understands that she cannot get away with such behavior. That's what one Canadian parent did. And it got him hauled into court with the judge overturning his punishment of taking away the internet because it was too harsh.
Or how about your 15 year old daughter entering into a pact with 16 other girls her age to get pregnant. That's the story from Gloucester, Massachusetts where school officials are lobbying the community to give them permission to prescribe birth control to underage girls regardless of parental consent. It seems that most of the girls are from broken homes where they do not feel loved so they decided to get pregnant and have babies that love them unconditionally. The girls apparently were taking advantage of the free pregnancy testing offered by the school clinic and seemed disappointed when the tests were negative.
Here are a couple of cases that show the state of parenting in society. Those that want to be parents and provide discipline to a wayward daughter, for example, are hauled into court where a judge, instead of upholding the parents, sides with the daughter and usurps any present or future authority of the parents over the daughter. In the other case, the school nurse sees that there are underage girls who are sexually active, wanting to get pregnant, and instead of contacting a parent or guardian, they want the government school to allow distribution of contraceptives without parental consent.
These two incidents demonstrate how poorly the government, whether it is the court system or the schools, handles family affairs. Couple that with the Texas government running roughshod over parental and family rights in the recent polygamy case, and there is a trend where the very best that the government has to offer children is quite possibly the worst for both the child and parents. The government taking over parental responsibility is a disaster. What should be done is in all things, the Bible be consulted as the guideline for raising children. Instead of minimizing the role of parents, governments should hold them responsible. Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Good advice even for those who want separation of church and state.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!
