“Psalms 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
Bill Wilson writes on April 17, “Today, the nation mourns the tragic loss of life at Virginia Tech. It is beyond comprehension that someone would be so evil as to kill innocent people in cold blood. It is indeed a time when people turn to God for comfort and answers. America’s hearts and prayers reach out to those whose loved ones were killed or injured in the shootings. It is a time of prayer and reflection. A time to measure one’s own life against the march of time and ask the very question, “If that was me, am I sure of where I will be the instant after I die?” It is a time when we all see how precious and delicate life can be.”
Mr. Wilson then begins to catalog the various events that have occurred in April, “Certainly, April 16, 2007 will be remembered in infamy. But the month of April, and especially the ten days beginning on April 15 and ending on April 25, are days of great sorrow. On April 15, 1912 the sinking of the Titanic killed some 1,500 people; On April 17, 1917, Lenin began the Bolshevik Revolution, which ultimately destroyed over 100 million lives; On April 20, 1889, Adolf Hitler was born, enough said there; April 25, 1792, the Guillotine was used for the first time, resulting in over 80,000 deaths by the French and the Nazis, and on April 21, 1989 the world watched the Tienanmen square incident in China. But here in America, recent history during the week of April 15 is especially tragic.”
Bill finishes his points about April with this, “On April 22, 1984, the AIDS virus was discovered; On April 19, 1993 the Clinton Administration’s raid on the Branch Davidian complex in Waco, Texas left 80 men, women and children dead; On April 19, 1995 the Oklahoma City bombing took 168 innocent lives; April 20, 1999 two shooters at Columbine High School killed 13 innocent students before ending their own lives. And now on April 16, 2007, the Virginia Tech tragedy will mark this generation.”
What Bill Wilson shares with his readers is a sign of how deep spiritual darkness runs in this country and around the world. When we do not have fear of God in our lives, these sort of events are the result. The exact same pattern can be seen in the history of Israel every time she turned away from God, she was turned over to her enemies, curses, and disease.
It is the American people who have allowed the politicians to take away prayer in public places, to take God out of the schools, to take the Ten Commandments out of the courts, and even to take away their rights to defend themselves, We need more than weapons in the hands of good people. We need to bring prayer back into school, the restoration of morality in society, and a return to real parenting and discipline.
Who has been harmed by the goodness of the Lord’s Word that dictates a lifestyle of love, mercy, and peace balanced with truth, justice, and moral righteousness?
